i didn't want to have to do this, but here it goes. Jimbob and I decided 6 years ago what we would name our children. in light of a recent celebrities naming their daughter the same name, i feel the need to go on record. our first pick for a girl's name is Stella Blue. since we are both deadheads (no comments needed, we've heard them all) we wanted a good dead name. Cassidy is way too over used and we just didn't like it anyways. so this beautiful ballad was chosen.
Stella Blue
Lyrics: Robert Hunter
Music: Jerry Garcia
All the years combine
They melt into a dream
A broken angel sings
From a guitar
In the end there's just a song
Comes crying up the night
Through all the broken dreams
And vanished years
Stella Blue Stella Blue
When all the cards are down
There's nothing left to see
There's just the pavement left
And broken dreams
In the end there's still that song
Comes crying like the wind
Down every lonely street
That's ever been
Stella Blue Stella Blue
I've stayed in every blue light cheap hotel
Can't win for trying
Dust off those rusty strings just one more time
Gonna make them shine
It all rolls into one
And nothing comes for free
There's nothing you can hold
For very long
And when you hear that song
Come crying like the wind
It seems like all this life
Was just a dream
Stella Blue Stella Blue
so there you have it, we are not jumping on some bandwagon. this was a decision made years ago. in light of all we have had to and will have to endure to make this dream a reality i find it appropriate that we name our daughter after this song. i just wish i did not feel the need to prove that we are not following a trend. of course anyone who really knows us would never think that. we are the people who got a microwave a mere five years ago, and were forced to carry cell phones when all the pay phones disappeared.
The rest of our names are top secret so do not ask.

I love it!
Our boy is named and has been for a year. The girl has a family middle name but the first name is still open to discussion. This is the nice part of the adventure ... thinking of names and dreaming ... and we're allowed to do this amidst all the fear.
Stella is a beautiful name!
I love the name Blue. And Stella Blue is gorgeous. You're brave sharing the name ahead of time, though. We didn't pick a name until Lyra was four days old, and refused to even tell anyone what names were being considered because we didn't want anyone making us feel bad about or talking us out of our faves.
TOTALLY LOVE the name, and yes; brave for sharing. We had our boy name picked out 5 years before we even started trying. Told my husbands best friend during casual conversation when they discovered that they were pregnant.
Baby was born; they STOLE OUR NAME. I cried. Oh man, did I cry! But I love my son's actual name a thousand times more, so a happy ending anyway!
I love it too!
same story as mama-beans, here. i had my name picked out forever, told my pregnant cousin, and BAM! SHE STOLE IT!! i couldnt even say her babies name forever. im over it now, and i think HAZEL is a much more interesting and quirky name than that other old dusty one that was taken out from under me. harumph.
sounds like youre not too concerned with that happeneing for lil miss stella though! good for you! i think its a beauitiful name.
Doesn't this make you mad?! We have had a name for years and then some stupid football player who has his name announced like every 5 seconds has it and it isn't common!! People will think we named our baby after him ARG!!!
Those of us who wait years to use our chosen names need a system to secretly send in our names sealed so we can prove we are not copy cats later LOL
